Trials refer to the formal proceeding conducted in a court of law to determine either liability in a civil proceeding or guilt/innocence in a criminal prosecution. During a trial the issues are adjudicated through the presentation of evidence, legal arguments, and examination of witnesses before a trier-of-fact (either a judge or judge and jury). Following the close of the presentation of the parties’ cases, the trier-of-fact will reach their verdict.
